A goal of moisture detection is to identify and document abnormally wet areas/locations which can cause potential damage of a building/structure so that the environment can be reoccupied or brought back to the dry condition and in the most economical and efficient means possible. The process begins by identifying all of the affected materials. Water must be tracked from its initial source and diligently followed in every direction it migrated to establish an accurate picture of the extent of the damage. Systematic measurement of moisture content can provide vital clues of hidden dampness.
